🗺️ Location & Administrative Info

Kallithea is a small traditional mountain village located on the southwestern side of Samos, nestled on the eastern slopes of the majestic Mount Kerkis. It sits at an altitude of approximately 313 meters and lies around 4.5 km from Ormos Marathokampou.
Administratively, it belongs to the Municipal Unit of Marathokampos within the Municipality of Western Samos. According to the 2021 census, it has 119 permanent residents.

🏘️ Village Character

Kallithea stands out for its charm and tranquility. Narrow cobbled alleys, traditional stone houses with flower-filled courtyards, and peaceful corners define this village. The name “Kallithea” literally means “beautiful view”, and it's well-earned – the sight of the Aegean Sea and the Fourni islands is truly breathtaking, especially at sunrise or sunset.

🌿 Nature & Hiking

The village is a starting point for hiking trails on the eastern side of Mount Kerkis, the highest mountain on Samos (1,434 m). The surrounding area features Mediterranean shrubland, oak trees, and wildflowers, and is home to rare birds of prey such as falcons and eagles.

⛪ Religious Sites

Nearby you’ll find:

  • Panagia Makrini, a tiny chapel built inside a cave, perched at high altitude on the cliffs of Kerkis. It is only accessible via hiking.

  • Agia Aikaterini, another historic local chapel, also reachable through nature trails.

🎉 Local Life & Tradition

Despite its small size, Kallithea keeps its traditions alive with local festivals, annual reunions of Kallitheans (both in Samos and Athens), and everyday social life revolving around the village café and church. Most residents work in agriculture, livestock farming, and olive oil production.

🚗 Access & Useful Info

Kallithea is accessible by a paved road from Ormos Marathokampou. There are no tourist facilities within the village – only seasonal homes and residences of locals. For food or accommodation, the coastal village of Ormos provides nearby options.

Kallithea of Samos is a destination for travelers who seek authentic island life, far from the crowds. With panoramic views, scenic trails, and a quiet rural rhythm, it is a hidden gem of Western Samos. 🌄🌿
