🏞️ Geography & Location
Agios Panteleimon is a small inland settlement in northwestern Samos, surrounded by lush nature and traditional countryside landscapes.

It is situated along the Potami stream, southwest of Karlovasi, at an average altitude of 108 meters, and approximately 36 km from the main town of Samos.


👥 Population
The population of Agios Panteleimon has decreased significantly over the decades, reflecting the broader trend of rural depopulation on the island:
  • 1961: 54 residents

  • 1971: 31 residents

  • 1981: 32 residents

  • 1991: 26 residents

  • 2001: 18 residents

  • 2011: 7 residents

  • 2021: 12 residents

The slight rise in 2021 may be attributed to returnees or renewed seasonal habitation.

🏛️ Administrative History
Agios Panteleimon has undergone several administrative changes:
  • 1918: Recognized as a settlement under the name “Tsourlaioi” and annexed to the community of Lekka in the prefecture of Samos.

  • 1940: Renamed to “Agios Panteleimon”.

  • 1997: Detached from the community of Lekka and incorporated into the Municipality of Karlovasi.

  • 2010: Became part of the unified Municipality of Samos under the “Kallikratis” administrative reform.

  • 2019: Incorporated into the newly established Municipality of Western Samos.


🌿 Natural Highlights
  • Potami Waterfalls: A short distance from the settlement, these lush waterfalls are one of Samos’s most scenic natural attractions, surrounded by dense vegetation and forming tranquil pools.

  • Potami Beach: Located to the northwest, this beach is known for its natural beauty, clean waters, and wild charm.


⛪ Church of Agios Panteleimon
The settlement is home to the Church of Agios Panteleimon, dedicated to the saint known as the healer of both body and soul.

The church is a spiritual landmark for the local community and hosts a traditional celebration on July 27, the saint’s feast day, attracting visitors from nearby villages.

Agios Panteleimon is accessible by car via the provincial road network of Samos.

The nearest major town is Karlovasi, which offers essential services and transportation connections to the rest of the island.
